MIKO NO INORI

videoinstallation (1996)

This videoinstallation is one of the most famous works done by Mori,

and I guess that probably who didn't know her art before surfing on

this site, has recognized her face on the main page, because of the

success obtained by Miko no Inori (you can see one of its sequence

even on MTV's stylissimo!). If you haven't recognized it, let me suggest

you to start studying contemporary art and to being a little bit more

fashionable ... ok, so now I'm introducing to you one of the cult

masterpieces of our ages, just one word for it: DIVINE as its creator.

Miko no Inori is the name used for a videoinstallation performed at

the Tokyo main station by our Mariko-san which plays a cyber-fairy

with a glass sphere. The people around seem to be busy and they pass

her by seeming very busy at all. Her time, her space look out of the

world around, like an heavenly creature. Love at first glance is our

reaction... There are many images taken from Miko that have become

artworks on their own. You can hear and download its bootleg mpg

at the UNOFFICIAL MARIKO MORI FC, recorded by a fan.

The video, if I'm not wrong is played again and again four times

until it stops and starts again while Mariko's costume seems to come

from an enchanted manga theme, as only Masakatsu Katsura is able

to draw like a moonie beautiful senshi or a sophisticated "Video Girl
