This page is dedicated to everybody who thinks that Mariko Mori is an model that has started her artist career last year, like famous mannequins who open restaurants or desperately try to become actresses. If you already know Mariko Mori's work, don't waste your time reading my explanations and surf on the other pages!!

First of all let me tell you that I comprehend that probably your usual magazines, or whatever, gave you a distorted and superficial descriptionof her work, I guess that it's easier to introduce Mori as a model instead of"a conceptual artist which has her own iter in performance and costume play where she looses her humanity to celebrate virtual icons through the body presnece of the creator herself..." Even Andy Warhol was described as a graphic designer!Ok, I really don't have anything against fashion models, especially becauseI'm definitely sure that fashion is a primary human need (VIVIENNE JE T'AIME!) as well as my personal background belongs to fashion too.When Mariko Mori was a model (experience she did in the conscience of learning how to performe herself) she was about 16, so I really wonder how you can suppose that Miko no Inori is played by a teen-ager. (Usually Miko is not comprehend and most of the people guess that it's Mariko modelling, not an art video). Her fame doesn't belongs to her yonger career (that actually here in Europe has never come, I guess but I'm too young to judge) but to her art work and art study, especially because

Let's suppose that the 18-years-old Mariko decided to study architecture and do a new architecture which has its inspiration in manga and performance (it's a paradox) and got the same success, everybody would say: "Mariko Mori, who worked as a model in Japan is now one of the best architects in the world. " But nobody would confuse her art work with her previous occupation! Rem Koolhaas, other greatest genius of our age, was a journalist before becoming the one and only Mies'son, and actually his attitude to critics, to analisis, his creativity that belongs to his talentin writing had an important rule in his actual success. As for Mori whose love for fashion gave her that peculiarity that makes a goddess of her.If you spent your life studying and creating art 24 hours a day (... check the chronology and do statistics) would you like to be misunderstood as only the model of your own work?On the other side it's right to consider her body-presence as a virtual one which is a final "product", not the artist herself. But I guess thiswasn't the reason why you read this text.
